The National Sporting Museum and Library hosts monthly sessions with local artists-fabulous, fun, and free to the public of all ages.  After a brief warmup, we were encouraged to sketch from sculpture rather than the paintings.  I loved the playful exuberance of the bucking horse, which seemed strangely familiar….

Sure enough, I dug around a bit when I got home and voila!

A couple of decades ago I wrote a ballad called “The Renegade Colt,” scribble-sketched a series of illustrations, and gave the resulting book to selected friends for Christmas.  This statue was in almost the identical pose as my colt! (With today’s ease of self-publishing, maybe I’ll do another run…hmmmm….)
